2020=1800? Quite Possible

2020 = 1800? Quite Possible! Math genius will play all their tricks and will shout thousand times, “that it is not possible by any means”. Yes, it is not possible mathematically, but it is soon going to happen, unless the world acts wisely. In coming 20-30 years, the world will be pushed backwards by 200 years. All the inventions that science has brought and revolutionized the world will be of no use then. We will have billions of people, but no food. We will have vehicles, but those will be kept in museums. None of those are sarcastic remarks but it is the fact, or let say threat, which will eventually will cerate bigger unsolvable problems for world. We may bring down population under control. We may even produce enough food (Ironically, we are not taking enough efforts to take into account these problems also), But what scares me is the energy crisis.

E = MC2, a famous Einstein equation. Total energy of Universe always remains constant.. All these equations, laws taught in schools seem wrong. Probably, believing these concepts, we have consumed energy so recklessly, sooner or later; we are going to face shortage of energy. Wake up! We are on the verge of energy crisis and we don’t require complex math to calculate it.

Global oil use is 31.5 billion barrels per year (One barrel oil = 42 U.S. gallons, One cubic foot = 7.48 U.S. gallons, One cubic mile = 147.2 billion cubic feet) .So, the volume of oil consumed by mankind annually
1.2 cubic miles of oil per year.

Estimated worldwide oil reserves at the beginning of 2006 = 32 cubic miles. It is also believed that 90% of global convention oil has been already found.

Is it that world government has not recognized this problem? Is that world government has not stepped up to find solution of this problem. They are, but not seriously as much as they should have been! Had energy crisis been recognized seriously, they would not have subsidized oil and encouraged public to consume energy recklessly. Need of today is spread awareness of growing threat of Energy Crisis. It would be essential to take an eagle’s eye view on this problem.

Developed countries consume more fuel:

As per study done in 2006, top countries which consume oil (in millions of Barrel) are:

1. United States

20.6

8. Brazil

2.12

2. China

7.27

9. South Korea

2.12

3. Japan

5.22

10. Saudi Arabia

2.07

4. Russia

3.1

11. Mexico

2.03

5. Germany

2.63

12. France

1.97

6. India

2.53

13. United Kingdom

1.82

7. Canada

2.22

14. Italy

1.71

From above data, it can be seen that oil consumptions is directly proportional to Gross domestic product of country as well as population growth. As countries develop, industry, rapid urbanization and higher living standards drive up energy use, most often of oil. Also as population explodes and more and more people become oil dependent, it is bound to be increase consumption of oil.

Use of renewable energy sources is still limited and still it could not reach 15% of world energy consumption. There is need for world governments to put more efforts, money and manpower in research and development of renewable energy sources rather than allocating billions of dollors for defense.

If we scale down the problem at government level, then below are the reasons, which has fueled oil (energy consumption) growth exponentially

1. First of all, all world governments should be blamed for excessive oil consumption. They have failed to spread awareness among their countrymen about oil crisis.

2. Secondly, they have subsidized oil prices, which has made oil available at much cheaper rate than the actual rate in the world market. This has fueled oil consumption

3. Governments have failed to promote use of renewable energy sources. There is need for world governments to put more efforts, money and manpower in research and development of renewable energy sources. Had the renewable energy been available at much cheaper rate, scenario would have been different.

4. Lack of effective public transport system has pushed up use of personal vehicles. Again, I am sure that, energy consumption would reduce by 30 – 40%, if people start using public transport effectively.

World consumers which means we people, also to be blamed equally. It is tendency of people, careless ness, and lack of love for nation and cautiousness towards nation’s problem, which leads to consume oil carelessly. Big question is if government resolves issues from their side, Will people of country will start using fuel effectively and efficiently. Answer is Big “No”. Had they been cautious about nation’s problem, they would have started using fuel more wisely. If you look through Eagle’s Eye, below are the problems from our side.

1. It is the self, which matters more for people and not the nation, not the world. People prefer to have and use their own vehicle, even if better public transport system is available, on accountability of comfort they feel.

2. Possessing vehicle is a status symbol. People purchase and use vehicle for exhibiting their status and not as a need.

Now, is there is solution in sight? Not exactly. Sooner or later, there will be end of Oil reserves. What we can do only is prepare ourselves for 18 Century and save and consume oil wisely and look for alternate renewable energy sources, so that we can delay arrival of 18th Century little bit.

Following are some of the remedies that come to my mind when I think about oil crisis and which must be implemented at government and personal level.

1. Improve roads and infrastructure, which will lead to improve efficiency of all vehicles

2 Build effective public transport system, which will carry people, goods etc at much cheaper rate. If government is not able to put it in, then allow private companies to start these services.

3 Remove subsidy on oil if it used for private purpose. Keep subsidy on oil, if it is used for public purpose. This will push people to make use of public transport system

4. Introduce rationing of oil and let people use fixed and limited amount of fuel

5. Government should control production of all auto companies, so that fixed number of oil dependent vehicles are introduced in the market, so that number of vehicles will not increase exponentially but rather remain constant

6. Government should promote research and development in use of renewable energy sources

7. Auto companies should focus more on trapping renewable energy sources and producing oil independent vehicles rather than introducing new models.

8. Apply electronic revolution wherever it is possible. Push it forward and develop a system so that people have to commute less. Let people travel only when it is essential

9. Promote use of bicycles. Nobody will buy or own bicycle. Let government buy enough bicycles and put them bicycle store in every lane. Let people use those bicycles for personal use. Let it be free or with minimum charge. This will reduce dependency upon autos, personal vehicles.

10. Make solar cooker, solar heater and other solar appliance available at cheaper rate, so that people use them general purpose like water heating, cooking etc.

Quite funny and ridiculous ideas are these! But it is not senseless as much as the world, which consume oil so recklessly and senselessly!

Save Oil, Save World.

Globalization – what’s next? 7 = 1?

When US equity markets fall, all over the world, all equity markets follow it. When there are tensions among countries in Europe, Asia, The world feels heat in either way. When there is shortage of Oil or supply concerns, the world stops running. When there is catastrophe like tsunami, the whole world comes for rescue. It is what called as globalization and in 20th century we have experienced it through combination of economic, technological, social and cultural and political forces all over the world. The world has come closer and it has been possible because of Globalization only. Now what next? For me, a next step will be 7 = 1.

It is erasing boundaries all over the countries and continent and unifying whole world into single unit? Unifying all 7 continents and making it a single world. Yes! That’s what I think about next logical step that should be taken.

Big question will be why on this earth, we need to unify all nations continents, as already we have been experiencing it’s good effects through globalization. Nice to have an view through Eagle’s Eye.

  1. Though the countries all over the world have come closer, freely trade and dependent upon each other, still they are separated economies, separated nations. They are divided by boundaries and nations still think for self. Time has come to go one level up now and get united.
  2. Every continent is having it’s own problems. Africa faces starvation, Asia’s suffering from growing population, and America is suffering from problems like unemployment and terrorism. We all have our own problems, and fighting it ourselves will not be possible in future. We need one other’s help, But how much help, one will offer in future, if we remain divided.
